Whether you rock the French curl with a twist or the horseshoe biker style, it’s no doubt that the “stache” is making a comeback. After a long month of sporting pink ribbons for breast cancer awareness month, the transformation of November to Movember has begun. Movember is an awareness campaign targeted at raising funds for men’s health launched in 2004. As the iconic mustache has become a trending topic, big brands have taken center stage to support the Movember cause and are utilizing social media to help grow support for this charity.

Let’s take a look at some of my favorite Movember 2012 campaigns.

Gillette

Gillette has attempted to make Movember a more mainstream and visible cause to help raise awareness for prostate cancer. With a cross-promotional marketing campaign complete with guerilla tactics, print, TV and social media, Gillette aims to gain new support for this cause.  Gillette says it “embraces the gentlemanly spirit of the mo” resulting back to the 1940s barbershop image. Gillette hopes to bring this campaign to Mo Bros across the globe, specifically the UK, to support the initiatives of the Movember movement.

TOMS

TOMS is joining this worldwide movement by raising awareness for the cause with a new Facebook cover photo that represents what the mustache means for men’s health. TOMS has taken this a step further by custom designing limited edition t-shirts and shoes specific to the Movember campaign with all the proceeds going to men’s health initiatives, and a child in need will get a pair of new shoes.

With the partnership of Movember, brands have increased their exposure and helped to create a trendy brand image that resonates with a younger audience. It’s really a win-win tactic for brands. Movember has raised $229 million since it’s birth in 2004 with all the donations going to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the Livestrong Foundation, and the Global Action plan.

With nearly 1 million social conversations happening around Movember, it’s not just brands that are getting involved. Take a look at some of the Mo Bros grown for Movember. Don’t forget to share a picture of your Mo!
