With over 500 million users on Google+, it’s no surprise that a new feature has been added to the growing platform. If you’ve been on Google+ lately, you’ve probably discovered a new tab on the left sidebar called “Communities.”

If you are on Google+, you’ve probably started receiving invitations to join a new community. These “Communities” filter out irrelevant content and push forward the content you are most interested in. This is something similar to the Facebook and LinkedIn Groups where they are centered-around interests, organizations, or specific topics. Some of the features include a discussion board, hangouts, event planning, and the +1 share button.

It’s very important that brands start utilizing Communities because at some point the content from the Google+ Communities will begin to show up in search results. Google has been working for a long time now to connect all of its services with its social network, Google+.

Take a look at how Audi USA has created their Community:

To set up your Google+ Community, simply go to the navigation bar on the left sidebar and click “Communities.” Then click on the red button in the top left corner titled “Create A Community”

Google+ will then prompt you to choose a public or private community.

Once you’ve completed that, Google+ will allow you to customize your Google+ Community.

Google+ Communities is really a great opportunity to get networking! Start now!
